If there was an international competition for software, this utility by 'troubadix' would have to win hands down in the 'freeware' category.
I have no affiliation with 'troubadix' but can only attest to not only how useful this utility has been for my Lenovo ThinkPad X100e, but how professional the code & software is; and it's free!!!
As soon as I graduate from uni I'll be adding myself to the donation board.
Thank you 'troubadix'! You've solved my hot X100e & given me perfect battery life optimisation vs cooling, etc. et al.
Rock on,
Mez

HI
I agree! TPFC works a treat on my TP T41.
I now have a brand new TP Edge 320 with Win 7 64 bit. and the fan noise it products is reeeeeeally getting on my nerves.
I've installed TPFC v 0.62 and it kinda works. I had to edit the .ini file to ignaore sensor 10 (PCI) as it showed 123 degrees all the time.
Now the ultity works OK, but for one significant problem: The fan goess from Level 0 (off) to a high speed, then it quickly settles down to a reported 828 rpm - but it's still too noist at this level.
After about 30-60 seconds, it goes back to Level 0 (off) - until doing the same thing again about a minute later - i.e. it's cycling.
Does this mean that the Level 1 speed is too fast? And is it it also the case that the Level speed (like teh other Levels) is fixed by teh BIOS?
If this is the case, then I think that a software solution may not be possible (hope I'm wrong about that). I've seen a hardware solution (install a module to fool the BIOS about the fan speed), but I'm not sure if there is enough space in the E320 to isntall it, and of course there are warranty issues.
Any comments woul be appreciated.
PS If I manually set the speed to Level 0 (off) for an extended period, will teh machine seld-destruct through excessive heat, or is there a further safety mechanism which will protect it?

I have the E320 too, and don't have such issue !
Strange : now I have the PCI at 123° after changing my CPU ... During light usage, the E320 is completely silent with no fan, and sometimes the fan activates to reduces overheating ! It works very well !
I use TPFan Control v0.62 with the Smart settings.

Hello, I've got E320 too, but tpfc.62 stopped working for me at all. It doesn't read any sensor (except battery), all sensors show 123°C and crd is constatly 64°C. Anybody have similar problem (it started with pci, then more sensors with 123°C apeard)?

i got a problem with my e43 using "tpfc_v062e.zip". i know it is only lenovo, not thinkpad series, but it looks like it will work partly (the fan goes high and low cycling frequently when running this tool) , but i have no idea how to edit the ini file to make it fit for this machine to make it under control. anyway, the "tpfc_v062.zip" works soooooo good on my x201, t400 and old t60. thanks again for your great job troubadix!!! thinkpad hero

I've been using tpfancontrol for about a year on my T520 and it would only detect one sensor (CPU). That seemed enough though and I honestly agree that tpfc is the most useful, neatest piece of freeware I've ever seen - which is even more amazing when u realize it's pretty much irreplaceable.
Anyway, last week (May 10, to be exact) I had some Windows updates installed (64bit Win7 Ultimate) and the CPU temp sensor is gone :/ I'm back to BIOS mode and it hurts. Anyone out there with the same problem?
